Hear my tale and song unsung
Tale of woe and hope undone
Forged in fire, quenched in tear
Sprung from racial inborn fear
Starting here in word and rhyme
In a village lost in time
With a boy of stormy fate
Born to world of fear and hate
Village stood in wooded dell
Far from war and weapons fell
Here lived those who knew not why
Man and Elf thought each should die
Elsewhere raged a war of tears
Culminating ancient fears
Wished did they to stay away
Safely hidden, come what may
Lived did they in calm and peace
One were they with bird and beast
Rangers, Druids, Elf and Man
Tilled and served the lovely land
Far away was Elf king slain
Far spread was this war of pain
Worried they the war draw near
Naught did they despite their fear
Years did pass and elves did lose
Grim were tales and dire news
Fell did town and town to men
Killing those who were not them
When an Elven stronghold fell
Far too close to wooded dell
Into wood survivors came
Fleeing mighty Shadowbane
Village prayed to goddess green
"Make our lands a sight unseen!"
Druids failed and people sighed
Goddess was preoccupied
Braced did they for what now came
Hoped did they to bypass pain
Fortune favors not the meek
Found were they within a week
Welcomed they the elven flight
Arms outstretched with waning might
Offered they to brethren peace
Willows swaying in the breeze
Elf saw Man and paniced there
Swiftly bringing swords to bare
Anger seethed and swords there swung
Hate now given voice by song
Rangers fought and druids too
Warding all that's right and true
Weakened by a life of ease
Swiftly fell they to their knees
Fires flared and village burned
Wept did they, the people spurned
Elves cared not for beauty's sake
Elves came there to burn and take
Boy, ill fated, could but watch
Elves of hate cut bloody swath
Loved ones fell and rose no more
Men were riven by the score
Father fell and uncle too
Boyhood friend was cleaved in two
Blood flowed fast across the ground
Bodies forming rotting mound
Mother murdered, house alight
Torso cut by fire bright
Pain thus seethed and hate did flare
Shaking head, he broke the stare
Blood of thought and blood of mind
Fires there did rage unbind
Loss of home and loss of life
Man is born of hate and strife
Into woods did this man flee
Seeking shelter 'midst the trees
There found friends and family left
Also home and hearth bereft
Flee did they from death behind
Seeking ward from elvenkind
Found were they in human lands
Killed were they by human hands
Few did live through fleet of foot
Young and strong with hearts of soot
Through the woods thus man did flee
Losing men within the trees
Split did they to dodge the chase
Man did run to hidden place
Running swiftly running fast
Stopping now, the danger past
Stopping here in glen a lone
Out from him escaped a moan
Tree surrounded, calm and sane
Rising voice, he spoke his pain
"Why?" cried he with all his might
"Bring to us such awful blight?
You I loved and we who served?
Is this cruelty here deserved?"
Silent She to whom he spake
Then did ground give violent shake
Clouds of blood and lightning flared
Mountains broke and naught was spared
Scraped and broken, wound and pain
Earth now shattered, harm and maim
Tears now fell from open sky
Goddess green began to cry
Answers found he in the rain
Knowledge that was mixed with pain
Fell did he from wound and loss
Lying still on now dead moss
There lay he within the blight
Shattered there in sundered light
Here was one who knew now why
Nations, Man and Elf, must die
Wars fought they for their own sake
Ruin brought they in their wake
Self saw they and no one else
Care for only Man or Elf
Turned did man to inner beast
Seeking for his rage release
Finding there a strength untapped
When drawn out, he then collapased
Waking there with head of pain
Under gentle falling rain
Now knew he that this was speach
Of a God of bird and beast
Now no longer had She voice
Aiding not was naught Her choice
Sorrow, pain, and loss as well
Drove from She Her powers fell
Breaking thusly did the land
Fault thus lay with son of man
Arrogant, he drew the fang
Of which bards and mistrals sang
Too fault lay with Elven pride
Both must die now, each in stride
Deathless Elves must know now death
Cambruin's Men must draw no breath
This I swear by goddess green
This I vow by family slain
Shattered now, the world has Turned
Vengeance now, the world will learn
Hear my tale and song unsung
